The Sharps faught in the American Revolution.

William R. Sharp, Sr. married Isabella Roberts in Knox County, TN in 1807.

They moved to Bedford County in 1820.

They raised a family of 10 children there. Their son Wm. R. Jr. married Sarah McGuire and they moved to Maury County, TN and settled in what was called the "Sheep Neck" area.

James Anderson Sharp

(4) James Anderson Sharp was born 7 Feb 1871 and died 24 Apr 1940 in Maury County, TN. He was married to Sallie Ann Hardison on 10 Dec. 1869. She was born 1869 and died 31 Dec 1943. She was the daughter of William Humphrey Hardison and Susan Gray Nicholson Hardison. They are buried at Sharp Cemetery. Children for James Anderson Sharp and Sallie Ann Hardison Sharp: (5) Luther Eugene Sharp was born 21 Oct 1892 and died 21 Sep 1964 in Maury County, TN. He married on 27 Dec 1912 to Martha Katherine “Kate” Jackson. Kate was born 27 Aug 1894 and died 23 May 1985 in Maury County. Kate was the daughter of Arthur Harris Jackson and Fannie Harris Jackson. Kate and Luther attended Sharp’s Corner Church of Christ and lived in the Sharp Corner Community of Maury County. Luther purchased his parents’ farm on what is now named Luther Sharp Road. Children of Kate Jackson and Luther Sharp: (6) Reed Sharp was born and died on 11 June 1915. (6) Zelma Eugene Sharp was born 18 Oct 1913 and died 10 Oct 1917 in Maury County. Both children are buried in Jones Cemetery in Columbia. (6) Alton Harris Sharp was born 7 Dec 1919 in Maury County and died 8 Aug 1970 in Nashville, TN. Alton married Lillie Liggett on 9 Aug 1941. Lillie was the daughter of Lottie Connor and John M. Liggett of Marshall County, TN. Lillie was born 27 Jan 1922 in Lewisburg, TN and died 24 May 1962 in Nashville, TN. Alton and Lillie are buried in Jones Cemetery in Columbia. Children of Lillie Liggett and Alton Sharp: (7) Peggy Jean Sharp was born 15 Oct 1945. Peggy first married William Fred Piper, Jr. on __________ 1962 in Nashville, TN. Peggy married second to William Carl Arline on 15 Jan 1971. Carl was born in Overton County, TN on 5 Nov 1943 the son of Laura Carr and Cecil Lee Arline. Children of Peggy Sharp and Fred Piper, Jr. (8) Deborah Christine Piper was born 9 July 1963 in Nashville. Debbie married Gilbert “Gil” Phaddeaus Williams on _________. Gil is the son of Betty Joann Mabry and Gilbert Earl Williams, was born 8 Aug 1960. Debbie was employed by the Tennessee Emergency Management Association (TEMA) and Gil drives a truck for Budweiser. They were members of the Riverside Baptist Church. Debbie and Gil divorced and Debbie married second to ___________ on ___________. Debbie passed away on ____________ due to complications of scleraderma. She is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Bill married Wendy Wylie on 11 March 1989. Wendy is the daughter of Lara Bell Hubbard who was born 12 Dec 1930 in Lexington VA and Robert Hadden Wylie who was born 20 Mar 1930 in Carnegie, PA. Wendy was born 22 May 1965 in Norfork, VA. Bill and Wendy live in Nashville and are employed by Wilbert Burial Vault and Cintas Uniforms, Respectively. Paul was born 4 Apr 1971. Patsy married Jimmy Walton Davenport, Sr. on ___________. Jimmy was the son of Clotys and Buford Davenport born on 6 Apr 19941. Jimmy is retired from the U.S. Army and the U. S. Postal Service. Jimmy had one son from a previous marriage, Jimmie W. Davenport, Jr. and one granddaughter, Jessica Davenport. Jimmy died on 10 Feb 2003 and is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Child of Patsy Sharp and Jimmy Davenport: (8) Tony W. Davenport was born ______________. Tony married Kimberly Phillips on 9 July 1993. Kim was born 29 Mar 1972 the daughter of Wanda and David Phillips. Tony and Kim reside in Lavergne, TN. (5) Sara Frances Sharp was born 31 Dec 1922 in Maury County, TN. Frances married John Smith Davis on 12 Jan 1940. John was born 15 June 1914 in Marshall County and died 9 Dec 1987 in Maury County. He was the son of Nannie Yarborugh and Thomas Gordan Davis. John was retired from Union Carbide and a member of Highland Avenue Church of Christ. He is buried at Jones Cemetery in Columbia. My dad was born John Smith Davis, in Marshall Co. on June 15, 1914. He did not have to serve in the military!! I was born Dec.21, 1941, & at that time they didn't take new fathers!! He had all his papers filled out, but was told he did not have to report for duty!! He was a star mechanic for Dixie Manufacturing approximately 10 yrs. Then he was employed at UCAR CARBON, Columbia, Tenn. for 23 yrs., retiring for health reasons!! He was a member of the Church of Christ for approximately 50 yrs. Mother was born Sara Frances Sharp, on Dec 31, 1922, in Maury County!! She worked at several area factories, as a machine operator for 20 yrs., she later worked in the Dietary Department of Maury Regional Hospital for approximately 7 yrs., where she retired!! She is a member of Highland Church of Christ, for about 50 yrs., & still attends regularly!! Children of Frances Sharp and John Davis: (6) Wanda Carol Davis was born 21 Dec 1941 in Maury County. Carol married Mahlon Alfred Haywood on 8 Nov 1963. Alfred is the son of Elizabeth Simmons White and Mahlon Haywood born on 8 Mar 1939. Alfred and Carol are members and attend regularly at Highland Church of Christ in Columbia. Alfred served in the United States Army for three years. In1961, he served in Korea, was assigned a dog and patrolled the strip between North and South Korea, called "No Man's Land"!! He feels responsible for killing some Korean's trying to cross over! It bothered him for a long time. He retired from RHONE POULENC after 10 years. He was employed at UCAR CARBON for several years, only to be laid off. Then he worked at Hooker Chemical for a few years and was laid off. Then, UNITED TECHNOLOGY, where he retired when the plant closed. He had 10 years service there. He retired Dec. 21, 2001. Carol has worked several places, Gibson's Discount Center, L.E. Sharp's Seven-Eleven Grocery Store, K-Mart, Leah's Fashions, and Belk Department Store, the last for about 7 years but did not retire, she had surgery and never returned to work, just didn't feel like the long hours on her feet every day. But since Al retired & is drawing Social Security, she was able to get hers the same year. She takes cares of two mothers, cook meals almost every day for them, and the children & grandchildren as well. Children of Carol Davis and Alfred Haywood: (7) Delano Lee Haywood was born 20 Feb 1967 in Maury County. Delano married Kimberly Dawn Kennedy on 9 Apr 1987. Child of Kimberly Dawn Kennedy and Delano Haywood: Children of Rhonda Batts and Delano Haywood: (8) Samuel Cody Haywood was born 17 Apr 1991 in Maury County. (8) Kelsey Delano Haywood was born 9 Feb 1990 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. (8) Mary Katherine “Katie” Haywood was born 12 Apr 1996 in Maury County. (7) John Dana Haywood was born 5 Dec 1975 in Maury County. Dana is a graduate of Columbia Central High School and received a degree in biology from the University of Tennessee at Martin where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Dana married Stephania Paige Zain on 23 Aug 2003 in Knoxville, TN. Stephanie was born ___________ the daughter of _______ Joseph and Joseph Edward Zain of Knoxville. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Semela Joseph of Houston, TX and the late Hassen Joseph and the late Mr. and Mrs. Murad Zain of Charleston, W. VA. Stephanie is a graduate of Bearden High School in Knoxville and received degrees in economics and marketing from the University of Tennessee at Martin where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She is a bank trainee specialist with Regions Bank. Dana got a promotion to CRA2 or Clinical Research Associate with ICON in Brentwood, TN. (6) James Terry Davis was born 23 Apr 1945 in Maury County. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1964. Terry married Shirley Ann Dale on 22 Jan 1966. Shirley was born 1 Oct 1945 the daughter of Ruth Dale. She graduated from Central High School in 1963. Terry works for Ucar Graftech in Columbia where he has 40 years of service as of 2005. Children of Terry Davis and Shirley Dale: (7) James Preston Davis was born 18 Aug 1967 in Maury County and died in a boating accident on 1 Jan 1987 in Duck River in Maury County. He never married. (8) Shannon Denise Davis was born 11 Nov 1971 in Maury County. Shannon is a cosmetologist and works at Pizazz in Columbia. Child of Shannon Davis: (9) Jessica Nichole Spears was born 24 May 1988. She will be graduating from Columbia Central High School in 2006. Child of Shannon Davis and Jesse Floyd: (9) Kayla Mylane Floyd was born 16 Feb 1992 and is in the eighth grade at Withorne Middle School in Columbia. Kayla is an honor roll student, loves sports and plays girl’s fast pitch softball. Kayla was in a movie Daltry Calhoun which was filmed in Columbia. (5) Luther Eugene “L.E.” Sharp, Jr. was born 19 Jul 1926 in Maury County. L.E. married Roberta Mae Foster in 1946. Roberta is the daughter of Lacy Ducan and Flournoy Foster. L.E. second married Wilodean Amis. L.E. was a grocery broker. He died 17 May 1990 and is buried at Jones Cemetery in Maury County. Child of Roberta Foster and L.E. Sharp: (6) Wayne Foster Sharp was born 5 Jan 1953 in Maury County. He is a graduate of Central High School and Tennessee Technological University. He is an engineer at Ford Glass Company in Nashville. Wayne married on 29 Apr 1989 Denise Ann Lounsbery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Lounsbery of Kalamazoo, MI. Denise is a graduate of St. Cecilia Academy and Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. She is an education consultant at Saturn Corporation. This family lives in Nashville, TN. Children of Denise Lounsbery and Wayne Sharp: (7) James Foster Sharp was born 19 Jan 1995 (7) Nathan Douglas Sharp was born 14 Jan 1997. (5) Martha Katherine Sharp was born 17 Jul 1929 in Maury County. She married Thomas Edwin Derryberry on 23 Dec 1951. Edwin was born 22 Jul 1924 in Marshall County the son of Cromer Derryberry and Lillian Crowe Derryberry. Children of Martha Sharp and Edwin Derryberry: (6) Kenneth Edwin Derryberry was born 13 Sep 1952 in Columbia. Kenneth is a graduate of Columbia Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University. He was a member and elected Commander of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He married twice, first to Tammy ___________ and second to Cynthia Lynn Moore on 10 Aug 1974. Child of Kenneth Derryberry and _______________ (7) Chase Maurita Derryberry was born in Memphis, TN on 5 Nov 1979 (6) Richard Mark Derryberry was born 7 Sep 1957 in Columbia, TN. Mark married Debra Ann Voss on 27 Jun 1981. Debra was born 4 Jun 1957 in Columbia. She was the daughter of Juanita Morrow and Howard Voss. This family resides in Columbia. Rose was born 26 Jun 1935 in Maury County the daughter of Margaret Pearl Black and Willie G. Jones. Children of Rose Marie Jones and Julian Aulos Sharp: (6) Margaret Sharon Sharp was born 17 Mar 1956 in Maury Co. Sharon married Gary Wayne Ligon on 10 Apr 1976. Gary is the son of Christine and Gene C. Ligon. He was born in Davidson County, TN on 12 Mar 1957. The family attends the Northview Church of Christ. Sharon is a nurse at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. This family resides in Columbia, TN. He married first to Sonya Denise West on 10 Jun 1983. Sonya is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. West, Jr. Child of Jerry Sharp and Sonya West: (7) Savannah Sharp was born 28 Jul 1986 in Maury County. Jerry is presently married to Debra Fitzgerald, daughter of Patricia and Lloyd Fitzgerald. Debra was born 26 May 1957 in Maury County. Jerry is self-employed in a body and dozer business. (6) Timothy Julian Sharp was born 28 Apr 1962 in Maury County. He is an employee of the Federal Reserve Bank and lives in Nashville, TN. (6) Stephen Randall Sharp was born 19 Jan 1967 in Maury County. He is divorced and has one son. Child of Stephen Sharp (7) Todd Sharp was born 5 Jan 1987. (5) John Hade Sharp was born 18 Jan 1895 in Maury County, TN. He married Curtie Mae Wright on 26 Dec 1918. Curtie was born 1 Oct 1999 and died 11 Sep 1985 in Maury County, TN. She was the daughter of Louis Tecumsky and Emma Jane Culley Wright. Curtie had a twin sister, Birdie Lee, who died in infancy. Curtie completed elementary school and attended Columbia Central High School. After their marriage, Hade and Curtie Mai purchased the Hardison-Harmon farm at Carpenter’s Bridge and the adjoining Greenfield far. They lived there for more than 50 years. Besides farming, Hade also was a Maury County school bus driver for more than 30 years. His first “bus” was a wagon pulled by horses. Children of Curtie Mai Wright and Hade Sharp: (5) James Louis Sharp was born 21 Dec 1920 and died in infancy. (5) John Mahlon Sharp was born 12 Feb 1922 in Maury County, TN. Mahlon married Ada Maree Nance on 20 Dec 1941. He was drafted in 1942 and assigned to the Army Air Force and transferred to the U. S. Army soon afterward. He served in the Phillippines during World War II. He was released from active service in 1946 but continued to serve as an active Army reservist until 1951, at which time he was recalled to full time active duty because of the Korean War. Mahlon attended Pottsville Elementary School, Columbia Central High School, Nashville Draughon’s Business College and the University of Tennessee Nashville. He was a licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in 1953. In addition to his public practice, he was employed at Aladdin Industries, Inc for nine years and Meharry Medical College for 27 years. He retired in 1986. John united with Smyrna United Methodist Church in 1952 and taught Sunday School Class there for over 40 years. In addition, he has served this church in many positions, including Treasurer for four years, Lay Leader for seven years, Stewartship Chairman for four years, Chairman of Administrative Board for four years, Chairman of Evangelism for five years, Chairman of Finance for four years and Chairman of the Official Board. Mahlon joined the United Methodist Witness Program in 1982 and served as a team m ember for more than ten years. John is also a member of the Smyrna Lavergne Gideon Camp, currently serving as Chaplin. Maree was born 16 Mar 1921 in Smyrna, TN the daughter of Nora Collins and Edward Nance. She was a graduate of Smyrna High School in 1939 and worked at Stewart Air Force Base and retired in 1953 from the Accounting Department with Genesco. She was a member of the Smyrna First United Methodist Church since 1933 but had attended Kedron United Methodist Church for several years. Maree died on 29 Nov 2004 after a short illness. She was buried at Mapleview Cemetery. Children of Mahlon and Maree Nance Sharp (6) Ann Maree Sharp was born on 7 Sep 1954 and married Garry Gannon in 1993. Gary is also a teacher. Ann graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1992 and she is a teacher at Smyrna Middle School. They have no children. (6) John Nance Sharp was born 11 Aug 1955 and died 12 Oct 2004 in Nashville. He was a member of the Smyrna First United Methodist Church, a songwriter, a physical therapist, a graduate of University of Tennessee at Memphis and a member of ASCAP. (5) Grady Wayne Sharp was born 22 Feb 1925 in Maury County, TN. He married Margaret Edith Lunn on 10 Feb 1949. Grady was born in the old Sharp’s Corner schoolhouse as his parents lived there at the time. He attended Pottsville school, a three-eroom school with grades one through eight. He is a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. and served in World War II as a military policeman from April 1945 until November 1946. He was stationed in Yokohama, Japan for one year. Grady lived in the Carpenter’s community all his life. Bridge Road in the Jones Bend area on the same land owned by his great-grandfather, William Humphrey Hardison. Grady also owns the land owned by great great-grandfather, William R. Sharp, Jr. where the Sharp Cemetery is located. Edith was born in Old Hickory, TN on 27 Jan 1931 the daughter of Sara Florence Allen and Thomas Willis Lunn. Her father, Willis, was born in Maury County on 1 Jul 1905 and died 4 Sept 1967. He attended school in the Lasea area. He worked at DuPont in Old Hickory, TN for a period of about three years. The remainder of his life he was a farmer, living on his farm in the Sowell Mill Pike area. He and Florence Allen married in 1927. Florence was from the Port Royal Community the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Allen. Willis and Florence had four other children: Annie Lorene Lunn Connelly born 5 Feb 1928 and died 28 Jan 1981, Herbert Allen Lunn born 20 May 1929 and died 10 Jan 1984, Ivie Jean Lunn Harris born 8 Mar 1934 and Betty Catherine Lunn Lentz born 4 Jun 1937. Florence died 13 May 1939 at the age of 29 after a two weeks illness. She was a member of Smyrna Cumberland Presbyterian Church where her funeral was held. In 1940, Willis married Dorothy Brown in 1940 and they had one son and three daughters; Mary Frances Lunn Bolton born 21 Sep 1942, Willis Anderson “Andy” born 9 May 1944; Martha Sue Lunn Jones born 30 Jan 1950 and Pamela Dee Lunn Conner born 8 Nov 1959. Willis died 4 Sep 1967. Edith attended a two-room school at Union Grove with grades one through eight. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1948. She lived in the Union Grove Community from age 5 until she married. She has been an active member of Union Grove Cumberland Presbyternian Church since early life. After marrying Grady, they have lived in Carpenter’s Bridge or Tugas Bend Community where he has farmed and is now partially retired. Children of Grady and Edith Lunn Sharp: (6) Marilyn Gay Sharp was born 15 Dec 1954 in Maury County. She is a 1972 graduate of Columbia Central High School and was a member of the Tennessee Office Education Club, Beta Club and National Honor Society. She is employed by the Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Marilyn married Charles Edward Vaughn, Jr. on 16 Dec 1972. Charles was born on 15 Dec 1954 the son of Betty Hendley, daughter of Frazier Hendley and Maggie Angus and Lem Vaughn, and Charles Edward Vaughn, Sr. Charles is a 1971 graduate of Columbia Central High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and is is an employee of Hall and Vaughn Construction. The family resides in Spring Hill, TN. Children of Marilyn Sharp and Charles Vaughn: (7) Adam Edward Vaughn was born in Maury County on 24 Sep 1981. Adam is a 1999 Graduate of Spring Hill High School and received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics in May 2004 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. On 5 June 2004 Adam married Crystal Mary Bonville, daughter of Chester and Penny Disbro of Columbia. She is a 1999 graduate of Columbia Central High school and employed by Tennessee Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. Adam is an assistant manager at Wal-Mart. The couple resides in Columbia, TN. (6) Mark Wayne Sharp was born 20 April 1959 in Maury County. Mark is a graduate of Columbia Central High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He is employed by Kraft Foods. On 18 July 1998 he married Donna Renae Thompson daughter of Brent and Ann Thompson of Columbia. Donna is a graduate of Page High School in Columbia and Middle Tennessee State University. She is employed by the State of Tennessee. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Page of Dover and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thompson of Murray, KY. Child of Donna Thompson and Mark Sharp: (7) Joshua Sharp (5) Madge Colleen Sharp was born 24 Aug 19 27 in Maury County, TN. She was a 1945 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She married Frank Albert Jennings on 10 July 1948. Frank is the son was Estel James Jennings and Zada Marie Smith Jennings. Frank was born 4 Dec 1925 in Marshall County, TN and died 1 Dec 2004 in Maury County, TN at the age of 78. Frank served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theatre during World War II. He was a member and longtime deacon of Rock Springs Baptist Church. He was the retired owner and operator of Jennings Automotives. Children of Madge Sharp and Frank A. Jennings (6) Denise Ann Jennings was born 4 Oct 1955 in Maury County, TN. Denise is a 1973 graduate of Columbia Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University where she is a member of Gamma Beta Phi honorary society. She married Glenn Thomas Summers on 19 Jul 1975. Glenn was born 11 Oct 1951 in Franklin County, TN the son of Lura Jean and George Summers. He is a graduate of Franklin County High School and attended Motlow Community College. He served in the National Guard. This family lives in Decherd, Tennessee where Glenn has served as Decherd Police Chief since July 1999. Children of Denise Jennings and Glenn Thomas Summers: (7) Glenn Thomas Summers, Jr. was born 19 May 1977 in Franklin County, TN. Glenn Jr. married Jennifer Eileen Minor, daughter of Darren and Sherry ________ Minor on 18 Jul 1998. Jennifer’s grandparents are Gene and Huetta Minor of Winchester, TN and Gayle and Nell Alexander of Woodbury, TN. Child of Jennifer Eileen Minor and Glenn Summers, Jr. (8) Jordan Taylor Summers was born in Tullahoma, TN on 20 Sept 1999. Child of Jayda Caldwell and Thomas Summer, Jr: (8) Skyler Mae Summers was born 18 July 2005 in Winchester Tennessee. (7) Jefferson Alan Summers was born 24 June 1981 in Franklin County, TN. (6) Keith Allison Jenning was born was born 31 Aug 1960 in Maury County, TN. Keith is a graduate of Columbia Central High School in 1978. Keith married Susan Rene Lowe on 21 May 1983. Rene is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Fletcher Lowe of Murfreesboro. Her grandparents are Loma Lowe and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Russell of Maryville, TN and the late T. F. Lowe and the late Linton Long. Keith and Rene are both graduates of Middle Tennessee State University. Rene earned a BS degree in office management at MTSU where she was a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1978where she was a Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, the Beta Club and Delta Beta Sigma sorority. She also served on the Student Council. Keith earned a BBA at MTSU in accounting and was a member of Beta Alpha Psi honorary accounting fraternity. Keith is employed by Columbia Fire Department where the family resides. Children of Susan Rene Lowe and Keith A. Jennings:

Mary Ann is in a nursing home. Carolyn is doing pretty good considering. I love you. 110/30/05 Let me know if you get this.

Turners did not fight in the Revolutionary War.

Absolum's real name was Absolum Fox. We don't know if he was adopted or not as the courthouse in Cocke County burned.
